Markets across Ibadanland will remain closed until 12 noon on Friday as a mark of respect for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin.
The announcement was made by the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abass, following consultations with key market leaders across the ancient city.
According to Alhaji Abass, all trading activities are to be suspended from 5:00 a.m. until midday, in honour of the late traditional ruler, who was the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
He described Oba Olakulehin as a monarch whose reign was defined by peace, unity, and unwavering support for the commercial prosperity of Ibadan. “His Majesty created an enabling environment for business to thrive. Traders and artisans will always remember him for fostering peace and stability,” he said.
Alhaji Abass called on all market heads to ensure full compliance with the directive, stressing that the tribute reflects the respect and gratitude of the trading community for the monarch’s enduring legacy.
While extending condolences to the royal family and the people of Ibadan, he prayed for the eternal repose of the departed monarch’s soul and divine strength for his family to bear the loss.
