The Nigeria Police Force has filed a three-count charge against human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, alleging that he incited police mutiny by leading a police protest in July.

Sowore is set to be arraigned on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Sowore confirmed on Tuesday that the police formally served him the charges, which include accusations of instigating unrest within the force, according to Saharareporters.

He is expected to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In July, Sowore led a demonstration alongside retired police officers demanding improved pensions and the removal of the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme. During the protest, a police cameraman attached to the Force Public Relations Office, identified as Aku Victor Chiemere, was captured on video stealing the smart  glasses.
