Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester City 2-0 in the early Saturday kickoff match day two of the English Premier League.
First-half goals from Brennan Johnson and João Palhinha secured the win for Spurs, who handed City their first defeat of the campaign just a week after their emphatic opening victory at Wolves.
While Pep Guardiola’s men will rue the miss chance to stake a claim as one of title favourite, Thomas Frank’s Tottenham signalled intent with a disciplined display that frustrated City’s attack throughout.
The EPL post-match report on the Spurs website read, “City are beaten 2-0 by Tottenham in our opening home game of the 2025/26 campaign.
“Looking to build momentum after a wonderful win against Wolves at Molineux, there were no home comforts for Pep Guardiola’s men as first half goals from Brennan Johnson and João Palhinha did the damage at the Etihad.”
