The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, have been thrown into uncertainty as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FUOYE branch, has declared an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

The decision, formally communicated on Thursday, was contained in a letter addressed to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu.

The letter, jointly signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and the Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, stressed that the industrial action would continue until all affected lecturers were paid their outstanding entitlements.

The union leaders explained that their action was in line with a standing directive of the ASUU national body. According to them, the National Executive Council (NEC) had resolved that any branch where lecturers’ salaries were not settled by the third day of a new month must suspend all academic duties until the matter was addressed.

“In compliance with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has embarked on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended upon full payment of salaries,” the statement read in part.
