Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned that Nigerians would resist any attempt by the United States to invade the country following US President Donald Trump’s directive to the US Department of War to prepare for possible military action against Nigeria.

In a post on X on Sunday, Fani-Kayode described Trump as a tyrant and accused him of threatening Nigeria with violence and invasion.

“Imagine a deranged and sociopathic megalomaniac and tyrant, a recalcitrant and unrepentant bully and a shameless godless scumbag like @realDonaldTrump threatening our country with military action and invasion. What a nerve!” he wrote.

The former minister said a friend had expressed concern over Trump’s statement, adding that Nigerians would not flee if the threat were carried out but would stand their ground and fight back.

He accused Nigerians of cowardice and complacency in the face of foreign intimidation and said the situation called for bold and courageous leadership.

Fani-Kayode also criticised Trump for aligning himself with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he likened to a modern-day Hitler, accusing both men of ignoring atrocities in Sudan while trying to label Nigeria with a genocide tag.

“Trump, a fascist and associate of the globally recognised Hitler of the 21st century, @netanyahu, has refused to call the Israeli Zionist Nazis and the UAE-backed RSF butchers of Darfur mass murderers and genocidal maniacs, but he is calling our people ‘killers of Christians’ and is desperately trying to brand our nation with a genocide tag,” he added.

His remarks followed Trump’s post on Truth Social on Saturday, where he ordered the US Department of War to prepare for a possible strike in Nigeria.

Trump accused the Nigerian government of ignoring the “genocide of Christians” and warned that the US would halt all aid and might intervene militarily to eliminate what he described as “Islamic terrorists” behind the killings.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and may very well go into that disgraced country, guns blazing, to wipe out the terrorists committing these atrocities,” Trump wrote.

He added, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet — just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians. WARNING: The Nigerian Government better move fast!”
