An aide to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has firmly debunked claims circulating online that the elder statesman is dead, describing the reports as baseless and irresponsible.
The personal assistant, Mr Adeyeye Ajayi, said on Sunday that the rumours making the rounds on social media were entirely false and designed to mislead the public.
Ajayi stressed that General Gowon remains alive, healthy and mentally alert, noting that the former leader continues to participate in public engagements and national conversations where necessary.
According to him, the retired general has remained a steady voice for peace, unity and national cohesion, maintaining his long-standing commitment to Nigeria’s development.
He cautioned against the reckless spread of unverified information, warning that such falsehoods often trigger unnecessary anxiety and emotional distress among citizens.
Ajayi urged Nigerians to exercise restraint and professionalism by confirming sensitive information from credible and authoritative sources before sharing, insisting that accuracy must take precedence over speed in the digital age.
