In a heartwarming celebration of new life, the First Lady of Osun State, Chief (Mrs) Titilola Adeleke, on Thursday January 1, 2026, visited the State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, to welcome the first babies of the year.

The symbolic first births of the year were a set of twins, born to Mr. Mathew Simon Abba and Mrs. Mercy Abba, via cesarean section at exactly 12:01 a.m., weighing 2.0kg and 2.3kg respectively. They were among eight newborns delivered at the facility to usher in the New Year. All mothers and babies were reported to be in stable condition under close medical supervision.

In an atmosphere filled with joy, the First Lady congratulated the parents and expressed her delight at the safe deliveries. She emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life and encouraged mothers to adopt best practices for infant care and development.

As part of her visit, Mrs. Adeleke presented cash gifts and baby items to the families of the newborns, stating that the gesture was meant to support their immediate needs during the festive season. “This is to lessen the burden of early childcare and reaffirm the Osun State Government’s commitment to the welfare of children and mothers,” she said.

She also commended the dedication and professionalism of the medical team at the hospital, urging them to continue providing excellent care.

The visit had in attendance: Barr. Jola Akintola (Commissioner for Health), Dr. Akindele (PS, Ministry of Health), Dr. (Mrs) Mojisola Aina, Dr. (Mrs) Olunike Adeleke, and other health officials.
