Award-winning Nigerian journalist and digital media editor, Sodiq Lawal, popularly known as Chocomilo, has resigned his membership of the Osun Online Publishers’ Association (OOPA).
He cited concerns over the association’s direction and its alignment with his professional values.
Lawal, a respected investigative journalist, social researcher, and editor with the online news platform WITHIN NIGERIA, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the association, Abioye Lawrence.
The resignation, which took effect from June 1, 2026, marked the end of his active participation as a financial member of the body. In the letter, Sodiq Lawal, popularly known as Chocomilo described the decision as difficult but necessary after careful reflection on developments within the association.
According to him, he had become increasingly concerned that the association’s direction no longer reflected the professional ethics and journalistic principles he holds dear. “This was not an easy decision.
Over time I’ve felt our association’s (OOPA) direction no longer aligns with the professional ethics and journalistic values I hold dear. After reflecting on this, I believe stepping aside is the most honorable path,” he stated.
Despite his departure, the journalist expressed appreciation to the association for the opportunities and relationships he gained during his membership. He thanked fellow members and the leadership of the association for the experiences and personal growth he enjoyed while part of the organization.
Lawal also wished the association success in its future endeavours, expressing hope that its leadership would continue to provide guidance and direction in advancing the objectives of the body.
