A lot of Christians do not appreciate the gospel because of its simplicity, so the use of anointing oil by many Christians is undermined.
Pastor David Popoola, State Pastor of Living Faith Church (Winners), Oke-Onitea, Òṣogbo, made this statement during the Covenant Day of Rescue Sunday service held on 17th August 2025, which also doubled as the monthly anointing service.
Ministering on the topic “Walking in Dominion Over Sickness and Disease” in line with the August prophetic focus themed “I will restore health unto you” – Jeremiah 30:17, Pastor Popoola emphasised that Christians become more than conquerors as they engage the weapon of the anointing oil to be rescued from the shackles of sickness and disease.
He stated that rescue means to save from any damage or affliction; it also means liberation and recovering forcefully what has been taken away. Christians, he explained, are engaged in spiritual warfare and therefore need to engage the weapon of the anointing, because by the anointing Jesus became a conqueror, as recorded in Acts 10:38.
Pastor Popoola further stated that another weapon to have dominion over sickness and disease is the anointing oil, describing it as a kingdom mystery through which the Holy Spirit manifests in the life of the believer. He explained that the anointing oil is not magic and it is not a ritual, but a channel where God raises a standard against any form of affliction, as recorded in Isaiah 59:19.
Explaining what is in the anointing oil that makes it heal, he itemised the following: the Spirit of the Lord is in the anointing oil, the healing power of God is in the anointing oil as recorded in Mark 6:7, and the anointing oil is a yoke destroyer that sets free from captivity, as recorded in Psalm 27:2.
Meanwhile, in the second service, he noted that the anointing oil authenticates the power of God, building the believer’s faith. He also said that the anointing is a spiritual medium through which the Holy Spirit manifests in the lives of Christians.
Furthermore, he noted that anointing is God’s craft because Jesus is the head of all principalities and power.
