Benue State House of Assembly has refuted a viral document trending on social media which alleged that lawmakers were working on a bill to ban romantic relationships across the state.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, Mr. Terver Zamber, the Assembly described the document as fake, misleading, and a product of mischief makers.
The forged Order Paper reportedly suggested that from January 2026, individuals involved in any romantic relationship would face legal punishment.
“The so-called bill being circulated has no sponsor and did not originate from any legislator,” the statement noted.
The legislature stressed its commitment to passing laws that foster peace, development, and unity, urging citizens to dismiss the fake Order Paper as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the House of assembly of Benue.
“The 10th Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker remains committed to the welfare of Benue people and will not be derailed by falsehoods,” the statement added.
