The Chinese government has warned the United States against interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
China also expressed its full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and Nigeria’s chosen development path.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, reaffirmed Beijing’s position as Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner.
She said China “resolutely opposes the use of religion or human rights as pretexts to intrude into the internal affairs of sovereign nations or to impose sanctions and military threats.”
Her comments followed remarks reportedly made by former United States President Donald Trump, who threatened possible military action against Nigeria over alleged religious persecution.
