British boxing great Anthony Joshua has been involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria, in which two people have died and others were injured, according to multiple reports.
The incident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, when the Lexus SUV carrying Anthony Joshua reportedly lost control and collided with a stationary truck during an overtaking manoeuvre.
The 36‑year‑old former two‑time world heavyweight champion who holds British and Nigerian heritage sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
Tragically, two other occupants in the vehicle identified as Joshua’s close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele died at the scene. Their deaths have been confirmed by official statements from his team and local sources.
Government and sports officials, including Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have expressed condolences and prayed for Joshua’s recovery and for the families of the deceased.
The crash comes just days after Joshua’s high‑profile victory over YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, 2025, and highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on Nigeria’s major highways.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
