In a notable show of grassroots support and community impact, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu, member of the Osun State House of Assembly, has empowered over 300 constituents in his constituency with multipurpose kiosks, equipment, and business grants in a major empowerment programme.
Tagged the “Skills to Wealth Empowerment Programme,” this multi‑million‑naira initiative aimed to uplift artisans, traders, market women, farmers, low‑income earners, and persons with disabilities across the ten wards of the constituency. Beneficiaries received items including mobile shops, deep freezers, generators, sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, barbers’ kits, sprayers for farmers, tires, and other valuable business tools to help launch and expand income‑generating activities.
Earlier in the day, Hon. Adeyemi IREKANDU also commissioned a modern motor park constructed for members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) ; a development he said would further stimulate local commerce and ease transportation challenges in the area.
Addressing beneficiaries, Hon Adewumi Adeyemi reiterated that the empowerment initiative was designed to reduce unemployment, alleviate poverty, and boost economic participation at the grassroots level. He revealed that some beneficiaries with disabilities received ₦200,000 each alongside mobile shops and POS machines to support their businesses.
The lawmaker also highlighted his legislative achievements, including sponsoring bills that have become laws, such as the Osun State Disability Protection Bill, and ongoing efforts to support education through payment of exam and school fees for underprivileged students in the constituency.
Party leaders, including Hon. Sunday Bisi (Osun PDP Chairman) and Bamidele Salam (House of Representatives member), praised Adeyemi’s leadership and urged constituents to continue supporting grassroots‑based representation.
