Residents of the Isapa community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic on Sunday evening after suspected bandits reportedly invaded the area. According to local sources, the armed men arrived around 7:00 p.m., firing sporadically, but were confronted and repelled by vigilant community hunters.
According to a resident who spoke with newsmen, he explained that the attackers appeared to be attempting a kidnapping, but the swift intervention of local hunters thwarted their plan.
“They invaded Isapa on Sunday night, but thankfully, they were unable to kidnap or harm anyone,” the source said. “The hunters quickly mobilised and confronted the bandits.”
The source added that several gunshots were fired during the confrontation, creating panic and fear among residents. “The bandits shot sporadically as they moved through the community, but the hunters stood their ground, forcing them to retreat,” he noted.
Residents reportedly remained indoors throughout the night as the echoes of gunfire reverberated across the community.
No casualties or abductions were recorded, a development attributed to the prompt response of the local hunters.
Communities across Kwara State have raised alarms in recent months over rising security threats, particularly from suspected bandits operating from forests bordering neighbouring states. Residents have repeatedly urged security agencies and government authorities to bolster protection in rural areas to prevent further attacks and potential kidnappings.
