Colleague and Content creator, Folorunsho Olayinka, popularly known as Finest, has denied having any hand in the death of comedian Adetola Samad, aka Sanku, insisting that he only stood as guarantor in the car deal that has now stirred public debate.
Sanku died in a fatal accident on September 2, 2025, along Ogbomoso Road, Oyo State, while driving a 2012 Lexus RX 350 SUV acquired on loan.
Speaking during a TikTok livestream on Monday, Finest explained that the vehicle, worth N25.4m, was purchased from JJ Motors Empire and Services Limited in Ilorin, Kwara State, with an initial deposit of N7m. According to him, the comedian had paid up to N12.28m before his demise, leaving a balance of about N13m.
He said, “I was only a guarantor because the dealer knew me. I didn’t persuade him to buy the Lexus. He requested a driver, and I provided one.
“So what will be my gain in killing someone who still owed over N13m? I didn’t benefit anything from it. In fact, I have all the voice notes where he thanked me for helping him secure the deal.
“The day the accident happened, I sent my siblings and colleagues to the scene and hospital. I even sent money for their treatment. I wouldn’t abandon him in such a situation.”
However, a close friend of the late comedian, who pleaded anonymity, countered his position, claiming that Sanku was pressured to return the Lexus for a cheaper Nigerian-used Toyota Venza after struggling to keep up with payments.
In a WhatsApp voice recording obtained by The PUNCH, Sanku was heard lamenting that he was repeatedly asked to swap the Lexus for the Venza. But his uncle, a policeman in Osogbo, reportedly advised him against the exchange, warning it could be a trick to seize the car without proper replacement.
Before his death, Sanku had proudly showcased the Lexus on his TikTok page on June 6, 2025, posting, “Alhamdullilah for life, congratulations Adetola,” while tagging Finest as the car dealer.
His passing was later confirmed by actor Yemi Elesho, sparking an outpouring of grief among entertainers and fans, even as questions continue to trail the ill-fated car deal.
