A man identified as Wale from Owode Igbona, Osogbo, was electrocuted today while trying to steal the cables of a transformer in Zone B area of Surulere Estate, Ede South Local Government Area, Osun State.
According to members of the community’s Technical Committee, Wale was attempting to disconnect the up-riser cable and other incoming wires from the transformer when the power was unexpectedly restored.
Unfortunately for him, the sudden flow of electricity caused an electrocution, leaving him injured at the scene.
The community quickly alerted the authorities, and Wale was taken into custody by officers from the Oke Iresi Police Station in Ede.
Dr. BMG Amosa, the Chairman of Zone B Community, expressed his concerns over the incident and the growing threat of vandalism in the area.
“While this is an unfortunate incident, it highlights the risks of tampering with critical community infrastructure. This should serve as a lesson to anyone considering similar actions. We’re committed to protecting our community’s resources,” he said.
The community leadership has called on residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
Wale is still in police custody as investigations continue.
