Gunmen suspected to be hoodlums on Saturday stormed Ward 5, polling unit 2 of the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, shooting sporadically and carting away ballot boxes.
The gunmen, numbering about six, who came on two bikes each at about 12:45 pm and clad in different clothes, invaded Wesley Primary School, Remo, Ogun State the polling unit of Adebutu, shooting sporadically to scare away electorates before carting away the ballot boxes.
They were said to have disrupted the peaceful election process, which was marred by electoral malpractices such as vote buying and underage voting, beating voters as some scampered for safety before carting away the ballot boxes.
She also disclosed that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and the security agencies for performing their duties professionally during the poll.
“The election has been peaceful. In the morning, the materials and men were deployed on time, and I went around. I have been to Sagamu, I have been to Remo North, and I am currently in Ikenne.
“The conduct of the electorates was commendable, and the presence of the security was also commendable. Our officials have been transparent I met some of them Early in the morning addressing the electorates,” she added.
