As the budget defence for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) continues, the Osun State House of Assembly has called on stakeholders in the education sector to ensure their 2026 budget proposals reflect the state’s goal of becoming a national leader in education.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Olumide Fatunmise, gave the directive during the budget defence sessions involving the Ministry of Education and other key agencies.
Hon. Fatunmise noted that although Osun currently ranks seventh in the country and first in the South-West, the state should be aiming for the number one position nationwide by 2026.
He also stressed that the budget must represent more than figures on paper, adding that transparency and accountability remain essential across all sectors.
MDAs that appeared before the Osun State House (OSHA) Assembly include the Ministry of Education, Osun Mass Education Agency, Osun State Senior Secondary Education Board, Osun State Library Board, Osun State Examination Board, Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
Others who defended their budgets were the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Local Government Service Commission, and the Civil Service Commission.
The budget defence exercise continues tomorrow.
