The Osun State Government has suspended all further engagements with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria following a deepening leadership crisis and controversies trailing its internal operations.
The decision was made public on Sunday in Osogbo through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, the government expressed concern over what it described as escalating leadership feuds and disputes connected to the management of resources allocated to the Osun chapter of the youth body.
As a response, the state government ordered a formal review of its previous engagements with the council and constituted a three-man investigative committee made up of nominees not affiliated with the NYCN.
The committee has been mandated to probe the issues surrounding the leadership crisis and submit its findings to the government.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the government said it would suspend all official interactions with the NYCN at the state level.
The statement further disclosed that the Osun State Government would implement a directive earlier issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector towards the end of 2025.
According to the government, the federal directive followed the withdrawal of the NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission, which resulted in the suspension of engagements with the council’s national leadership.
“The Ministry cited persistent infighting, factionalisation, and confrontations as reasons for the decision,” the statement said.
Alimi explained that the action taken by the Osun State Government aligned with the federal government’s position, noting that the state chapter was facing similar internal challenges.
He assured residents that the administration remained committed to restoring normalcy, transparency and accountability within the youth sector through the measures already put in place.
