At least two residents were shot and more than 10 women abducted on Sunday night when suspected bandits invaded Tudun Mallam village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack, which occurred late in the night, threw the agrarian community into panic as the assailants reportedly operated unhindered for hours.
Details of the incident were made public on Monday by a security analyst, Bakatsine, in a post on X. He said the attackers stormed the village under the cover of darkness, opening fire on residents and carting away women.
According to him, the two victims who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to Udutu Primary Healthcare Centre Sokoto for treatment, while the abducted women were taken to an unknown destination.
The bandits were also said to have looted farm equipment, compounding the losses suffered by the villagers.
Bakatsine quoted residents as lamenting what they described as a widening gap between official assurances and realities on the ground, noting that attacks and kidnappings were persisting despite repeated claims of improved security.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Sokoto State Government or security agencies on the incident.
