Read full statement below:
We received with deep shock and grave concern the allegation by HRM Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji Laaroye II, the Ataoja of Osogbo, regarding an alleged attempt on his life, an incident we consider one of the most troubling developments in the political history of our state.
It is deeply concerning when a revered traditional ruler from one of the most historic towns in Osun State publicly raises such serious allegations. That alone should compel every defender of democracy, peace, and the rule of law to treat the matter with the utmost seriousness.
According to the Ataoja, his palace was attacked, some of his aides sustained gunshot injuries, and he was the apparent target of the attack because of his political position and public support for the re election of Governor Ademola Adeleke. These are grave allegations that cannot and must not be ignored.
No democracy can thrive where intimidation, violence, or fear becomes a campaign strategy. Elections must remain contests of ideas, records, vision, and public confidence. Political actors who seek power must present their programmes to the people and allow voters to make their choices freely and peacefully.
Given the gravity of these allegations, the Osun APC has a duty to address them clearly. Silence, diversion, and propaganda are not answers. The people of Osun deserve accountability and transparency.
The Ataoja of Osogbo is not an ordinary citizen. He is a foremost traditional ruler and custodian of the culture, heritage, and values of the Osogbo people. Any allegation touching on his safety should concern every citizen of Osun State, regardless of political affiliation.
We therefore call on security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into all allegations surrounding this matter and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
Politics is temporary. Human life is sacred. No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen, and certainly not that of a respected traditional ruler.
The people of Osun are watching closely. These allegations are too serious to be dismissed with politics. The Osun APC owes the people either a clear clarification or an unequivocal condemnation of any individual or group connected with acts of political violence.
Osun must never become a state where political disagreements are settled through intimidation, violence, or attacks on traditional institutions.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq.
