The 14th Synod of the Methodist Diocese of Ijesa North has expressed deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect citizens and restore peace across the country.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the Synod held from 22nd to 24th May, 2026, under the theme, I Will Fight for You (Exodus 14:14), and signed by the Bishop of the Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Timothy Ola Olatunji, and the Synod Secretary, Very Rev. Samuel Kolade Oniyinde.

The Synod specifically condemned the recent abduction and killing of innocent citizens in Esinle Community, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable. It extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged security agencies and government authorities to intensify rescue operations for victims still in captivity while ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

In anticipation of the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election, Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ijesa North called on all security agencies to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, impartiality, and diligence. It emphasized the need for a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process and appealed to political actors, their supporters, and citizens to avoid actions capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.

In addition, the Synod sympathized with the people of Esa-Oke over the passing of their monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeyemi Akanni Adediran, Owamiran of Esa-Oke, who joined his ancestors on 6 May 2026.
