The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-il-Fitr, signalling the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and extended greetings to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to continue upholding the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice observed during Ramadan.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity and prosperity in the country.
Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged during the festivities.
The Federal Government (FG) reiterated its commitment to promoting national unity and ensuring peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
