The Osun State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has suspended its chairman, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, over alleged violations of the council’s constitution.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency State Executive Council meeting held on April 29, 2026, at the Youth House, Testing Ground, Osogbo, attended by principal officers.
The council said the suspension was in line with the provisions of the 2018 NYCN Constitution and the Osun State bye-laws guiding the activities of the organisation.
According to the communiqué, the action was taken pursuant to Article 19, subsections IV and VII of the constitution.
The council accused the suspended chairman of gross misconduct, impersonation, political apathy, abuse of office, and actions deemed to prioritise personal interests above those of the youth constituency.
It directed that Oluwasegun should no longer present himself or be addressed as the chairman of the council in the state pending the outcome of an investigation.
The suspension is to last for four months, during which a three-man Ethics and Disciplinary Committee will investigate the allegations against him.
The committee, according to the council, will comprise a representative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, a stakeholder, and the Legal Officer of the council.
Following the development, the Deputy Chairman has been directed to assume office in an acting capacity and oversee the affairs of the council.
The State Executive Council also appealed to voluntary youth organisations and local government executives to remain calm, assuring that due process would be followed in handling the matter.
It added that all actions taken would be guided by the interest of youths across the state.
