Residents Donate Generously as Child Wellbeing Initiative Holds EDU1000 Advocacy Walk in Osogbo

Residents of Òṣogbo in Osun State came out in large numbers to support education and child development as the Child Wellbeing Initiative (CWI) organised its 2026 advocacy and fundraising walk for the EDU1000 Project in Osogbo on Saturday.

The awareness walk, which began at Osun Mall and ended at Ayetoro Roundabout, attracted participants, volunteers, partner organisations, and members of the public who donated towards the educational project.

Activities for the programme started at with the arrival and coordination of volunteers, while participants gathered at Osun Mall for awareness campaigns and fundraising activities.

Shortly after a welcome address by Mr Elijah Adeleke, Development Operations and Engagement Specialist for  Child wellbeing initiative, participants commenced the advocacy walk through major parts of Osogbo, engaging residents, traders, shop owners, motorists, and shoppers on the importance of supporting quality education for children in Osun State.

 

While giving his address, Elijah noted that education is a not just a means to an end but an end to the means called poverty.

He added; that the walk is essential to link the importance of education to the know of the society as a whole.

During the walk, participants moved around busy locations including the Osogbo Justrite area, where many passers-by responded positively by making instant bank transfers and cash donations to support the initiative.

The first stop was at the Old Garage Roundabout, where partner organisations were introduced and advocacy talks were delivered on the importance of inclusive education and child support programmes. Fundraising activities also continued at the checkpoint.

The walk later proceeded to the second checkpoint beside the old Mr Biggs Restaurant near Igbona Market, where more awareness campaigns and fundraising activities were carried out before participants moved to the final destination at Ayetoro Roundabout.

Speaking during the programme, Mrs Aderewa Adeniji explained that the EDU1000 Project is designed to provide school kits and learning materials for 1,000 children, train 200 teachers on inclusive education, and equip six schools with learning aids across Osun State.

The Child Wellbeing Initiative (CWI), founded by Miskyat Oladosu, is a nonprofit organisation committed to improving the educational, social, and emotional well-being of children in underserved communities. The organisation works with schools, families, and communities through inclusive education, family engagement, and community-based support programmes.

According to the organisation, its goals include working with the government to organise workshops that focus on inclusive classroom practices and teaching methods that support different learning needs and accommodate diverse learners.

CWI also aims to provide schools with necessary assistance and technologies, encourage parents’ involvement in inclusive education, build support networks for children with learning disabilities, organise free after-school tutorials for children to help them focus on their strengths, and promote early diagnosis of learning disabilities for early intervention.

The programme ended at Ayetoro Roundabout with closing remarks, appreciation to supporters, group photographs, media interviews, and networking sessions aimed at keeping donors and participants connected with the progress of the EDU1000 Project.

Many residents commended the initiative and described the public response as encouraging, noting that collective support for education remains important for the future of society.
