Commercial bus drivers and motorcycle operators who ply the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife campus protested on Wednesday against their ban from entering the institution.

Daily Impact nigeria reports that the buses and motorcycles were banned after the university began operating CNG-powered buses and tricycles donated by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The ban has reportedly worsened transportation hardship on campus.

Students recently staged their own protest over the resulting transport challenges. Following that action, the school management directed students to proceed on a three-week mid-semester break.

Meanwhile, the drivers and motorcyclists who protested at the front of the OAU university gate with placards, appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intervene in the matter.

They said the ban has caused economic hardship and urged the university management to reconsider its decision.
